The Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) has called a strike in the city on April 10 to protest the increase in petroleum prices. KTI President Irshad Bukhari, talking to the media, said that the transport community is stronger than any political party. The transporters across the country had given a three-day ultimatum to the government to take back its decision of increasing the petroleum prices and warned of holding countrywide protests if the prices were not brought down. Succumbing to the pressure, Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Asif Hussain told the media on Monday that the government was considering a cut of Rs2 to Rs3 per litre in petrol and Rs1 to Rs2 in diesel prices….

Police Arrested 4 Target Killers from SITE

Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested four suspected target killers said to be involved in murdering eight people, including two cops. Sources said four suspected killers, identified as Kokab Nurani, Khuram Shehzad, Naimat Ullah and Gohar, were arrested in a raid conducted at SITE area of the city. “They have confessed to killing eight people including two policemen,” an official said, adding that two TT pistols and two 7mm rifles were recovered from them. However, there was no word from the police on the target-killers’ affiliation with any political party.

Another Shia lawyer was  killed on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on him on Burns Road. The deceased, identified as Abid Hussain, was on Burns road when unidentified men on motorcycles opened fire on him which resulted in his death. His body was shifted to Civil Hospital. According to the police, more than Rs60,000 in cash were found on the advocate along with an identity card. The Sindh government on Monday announced a public holiday on Wednesday, April 4, across the province on account of the 33rd death anniversary of the PPP founder and leader, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Matriculation Exams will Start from April 05

Preparations for the matriculation exams scheduled to start from April 05 have been finalized. Senior Superintendents deployed at examination centers will enjoy powers of First Class Magistrate. Section 144 has also been imposed at examination centers. Chairman Board of Secondary Education Karachi Saeed Siddiqui said more than 3,00,000 students are appearing in the exams, adding that the board has requested KESC to avoid practice of load shedding for five hours from early morning to afternoon. The board has also appealed to Sindh government to award Rs.500,000 to position holders.

A Shia man was gunned down in an armed attack in the Nazimabad police limits on Monday.Asghar Hussain, 38, was shot dead when unidentified people riding a motorcycle intercepted his Suzuki Cultus near Eidgah situated in Nazimabad No 6 while he was returning home.
