Police on Monday resorted to aerial firing and used teargas shells to stop Islami Jamiat Talaba workers and students from marching to the US Consulate in South Zone’s Red Area in protest against a profane American movie that had incited widespread denunciation in all Muslim countries.  Witnesses said that when hundreds of IJT workers started rallying towards the consulate, outside which they wanted to record their protest, law enforcers used force to placate them following a brief warning. Pakistan Navy’s annual maritime exercise SEASPARK-12 began on Monday.  The 2012 edition of SEASPARK – a permanent feature of Pakistan Navy’s operational calendar – will be conducted in the general area North Arabian Sea. “The main objective of the exercise is to assess the operational readiness and to provide an opportunity to the officers and men to operate under multi-threat environment and exercise responses accordingly,” says a press release issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (Navy). The exercise planning is based on manifestation of the naval chief’s strategic priorities of “Operational Readiness and Training”. Doctor Killed in Orangi Town Karachi

A doctor was gunned down in an Orangi Town locality on Monday. Police said the killing took place in Mohammad Mustafa Colony near Rehmat Chowk, Sector 11½, where gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted Dr Shahzad Ahmed, who was driving his car, and escaped. The wounded doctor was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he died on his way to hospital, the police said. Quoting hospital sources, the police said the doctor had suffered four gunshot wounds. An officer of the Iqbal Market police station said the slain doctor had his clinic, Ahsan Medical Centre, in Mohammad Mustafa Colony. He was driving to the clinic when attacked, the officer said. Heroin Smuggling Bid Foiled at Karachi Airport

Airport security force foiled smuggling bid recovering more than two kilograms of heroin from Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, Karachi on Tuesday. According to custom sources, the heroin was found from Satellite Department. It was being smuggled to a foreign country, sources added. It is worth mentioning that the recovered drugs were worth millions of rupee in international market. A case has been registered against the culprits and investigation has been started.
