Wajid Durrani will likely be new IGP Sindh

The government is reported to have decided to change Inspector General (IG) Sindh police Syed Mushtaq Shah. Sources said IG National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP), Wajid Durrani, is likely to replace Mushtaq Shah. Durrani, who has also served as IG Islamabad police and IG Sindh, called on Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik few days back and agreed upon assuming new office. Reports say Durrani is going to retire on May 25, 2012 and he is likely to be given extension in his term. Mr Durrani is also accused of being involved in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto’s brother, Mir Murtaza Bhutto.

The police booked leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee (PAC), a police inspector, two brothers of Baba Ladla and six other gangsters for killing a Kutchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader on Sunday night. Government takes Serious Measures to Ensures bank Securities

In the wake of rampant bank dacoity incidents in Karachi, the government has taken a step, setting up a committee to oversee and ensure banks’ security. Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday held a meeting with heads of different banks and announced the decision later while talking to media persons. He said the security committee would prepare its recommendations within three weeks. He confirmed some media reports that members of some banned outfits have also been found involved in Karachi’s recent bank robberies.
