The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) announced the results of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-II for humanities (regular, private and special candidates) second year and commerce (private candidates) for second year at an award ceremony held at the board on Tuesday. This year too, girls out performed boys in both subject categories, and all three positions in the humanities group were taken by private colleges. The Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) on Friday permitted 30 colleges in the city to grant admissions in class XI if seats were still available for the academic year 2012-13. A notification in this regard was issued on a direction of director-general (colleges) and CAP chairman Dr Nasir Ansar. 31 Candidates were Caught Cheating in Inter Exams

As many as 31 candidates were caught cheating in the paper of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Part-I & II Annual Examinations-2012, held on Tuesday. The special vigilance team, setup by Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, (BIEK), paid a surprise visits to various examination centres. The team comprised on BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai, BIEK Secretary Haider Ali Naveen, Deputy Secretary Arshad Qazi and BIEK Controller Imran Khan Chishti. BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai announced that the candidates, awarded scholarships in the exams of 2011, can obtain their scholarship cheques from the office BIEK Secretary.

3 Arrested in National College Principal Assault case

After conducting raids across the city, the police on Friday arrested three accused in the National College principal assault case. Gulshan-e-Iqbal SP, Abdul Salam Sheikh said that Rizwan Khan, resident of Landhi, Adil Tanvir of Quaidabad and Izhar Naeem were included among those arrested. The three accused were named in the FIR, while further investigations were underway. On Wednesday, members of student organisatons had assaulted the National College principal for not allowing them to cheat during the intermediate exam. College Principal, Professor Wasim Adil had registered an FIR against 25 students in New Town police station, in which, he had named 10 students.

The exams scheduled for both morning and evening shifts at the National College would be conducted at Government Degree Boys College, situated on University Road near Sheikh Zayed Centre in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said BIEK examination controller Imran Khan Chishti. Principle of the government-run National College Karachi (NCK) was tortured by students for not allowing the cheating mafia use unfair means during inter class paper in the college. Reports said few students, backed by a political group, wanted to carry out cheating during the examination and quarreled with the principal when he prohibited them from doing so. “After undergoing the paper, at least ten of them barged into my room, slapped and punched me, dragged me out and tore up my cloths,” the principal told reports in torn up shirt. Meanwhile, the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) announced to boycott the ongoing intermediate examinations across the Sindh, staging protest demonstrations in various cities.

Inter Exams Started from Today in Karachi

The first phase of the intermediate exams under the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) kicked off on Monday as students moaned and groaned of load shedding at around 40% of the 87 examination centres across the city. Altogether, around 43,000 students sat the Islamiat exam on the first day. It emerged that the biggest problem was not cheating but load shedding as the Karachi Electric Supply Company cut off power to three government colleges and offices of the Sindh education department because of unpaid bills. The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) said on Monday that it would not receive any further examination form pertaining to its first phase of examinations commencing on May 7. According to BIEK chairman Anwar Ahmad Zai, the candidates of pre-engineering, pre-medical, commerce (regular), home economics and general science (computer) groups’ examinations of the Higher Secondary School Certificate were given a last chance and in all 6,732 examination forms were received till April 23 — the last day for acceptance of the forms. The Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) annual examinations 2012 of pre-medical, pre-engineering, commerce (regular), medical technology, computer science and general groups would commence from May 7. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai, on Friday. He said that these examinations are being conducted in accordance with the decision of the Steering Committee of the Provincial Education Department. The BIEK Chairman said that the examinations of these groups would continue till May 28. According to a statement issued on Sunday, the BIEK controller of examinations said the results of the remaining HSC supplementary exams would also be out within a few weeks.
