Constable Arrested for Looting Public in Cow Mandi

Police on Monday arrested a constable along with three others on the charges of looting the public in the cattle market in Karachi here on Monday. According to Gadap police, a head constable and his three subordinates were allegedly involved in depriving the people of their cash and valuables when they came for purchasing the sacrificial animals in the market. Policemen of Sachal police station took action against the culprits after getting numerous complaints and arrested the constable along with three other helpers. The looted amount was also recovered from their possession.

Besides a new 200-rupee tax for the buyers, the overall condition of the animal market on the Superhighway does not seem to have improved this year, as the traders still complain of a lack of basic facilities, especially water, and high fees for various services. The 40-day cattle show, an annual feature in the city around the time of Eidul Azha, is said to be the largest congregation of animals in the country and is held under the supervision of the station headquarters at Malir Cantonment. Arrangements for Sacrificial Animals Market is a Go

Over a million sacrificial animals are expected to arrive at the temporary cattle market being set up in a specific area along the Superhighway. The Superhighway market — the biggest market of sacrificial animals in the country — will be set up on Oct 1 and continue to remain open till Eidul Azha. Entry of animals will be free of charge between the 1st and 10th of Zilhaj, according to a statement issued by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation after a meeting presided over by KMC Administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed.
