The search committee tasked with finding the next vice chancellor (VC) of NED University of Engineering and Technology forwarded names of four applicants to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Monday. After interviewing eight candidates on Sunday, the search committee settled on Prof. Dr Muzaffar Mahmood, pro-vice chancellor at NED University, Dr Muhammad Afzal Haque, director at NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology in Multan, Prof. Dr Nazimuddin Qureshi, NED Academy director-general, and Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, a professor at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology. Mazar-e-Quaid Lights Switched off as Karachi takes part in ‘Earth Hour 2012’

The lights at Mazar-e-Quaid were switched off at 8:30 pm sharp on Saturday but not because of a power outage, instead it was in commemoration of ‘Earth Hour 2012’. Being celebrated in the country for third time in a row, the worldwide event was organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Sindh government. NED and KW&SB Signed a Deal


The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has signed a memorandum with the NED University of Engineering and Technology under which the university will help the board maintain quality of water supplied by the utility to citizens and will also provide technical support in protecting board’s installations against earthquakes, says a press release. The NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi has acquired a building at the Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA) at Hawkesbay Road in the city. A university official said that the NED intends to use the building for promoting academic activities related to marine engineering and nautical affairs. The Book Fair 2012 commenced at the NED University of Engineering and Technology at its campus here on Tuesday. Vice Chancellor of the university Engr Abul Kalam was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Leading booksellers and publishers have been set up as many as 40 stalls at the fair, which will continue till Jan 12. A discount in the range of 20 to 30 percent is being offered on the sale of books.
