The special train has 10 bogies of economy class. The other special train bound for Rawalpindi will leave the city on Thursday (today). Reservations for seats had already been made and passengers who had not made any reservations got onto different trains. Japanese government will finance 93% of KCR project


The Japanese government will announce in October that it will finance the much talked-about Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, said Ijaz Hussain Khilji, the managing director of Karachi Urban Transport Corporation (KUTC). The $1.558 billion project, which is considered to be vital for tackling the traffic woes of the city, has faced continuous delays as Pakistan’s government has focused on meeting immediate security concerns and economic challenges. “There is no reason for being disappointed now. Business Express, the first non-stop train between Karachi and Lahore, will start operations from February 3 in a public-private partnership venture. The private sector company Four Brothers invested Rs225.79 million in the business train, which consist of 13 coaches including nine air conditioned coaches, two power vans, one luggage van and one brake van, said a Pakistan Railways official. Pakistan Railways and Four Brothers International Private Limited signed an agreement on August 18, 2011 to operate the train between the capitals of Punjab and Sindh. Freight Transportation Service of the Pakistan Railways (PR) was Restarted on Thursday


After a suspension of six months, the freight transportation service of the Pakistan Railways (PR) was restarted on Thursday as four goods trains departed from the Karachi Cantonment Station for different destinations across the country. Sources in the PR said that 18 locomotives were being repaired every month in different workshops and factories throughout the country, including the Diesel Workshop Karachi, the Lahore Railway Station, the Pakistan Locomotive Factory Risalpur and the CDL Workshop Rawalpindi and other facilities. Karachi, Prime Minister directed Circular Railway Project to be started


Prime Minister directed restoration of Karachi Circular Railway project will officials began in July next year. This project will cost around One hundred and 28 billion. Railway Authorities briefed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on circular railway rehabilitation project in Karachi. 93.5 per cent as soft loan will be taken from Japan while Government of Pakistan will provide the remaining funds. According to railway officials, railway tracks, signals, bridge maintenance and repair of engines is included in the project.
