Bomb disposal squad (BDS) personnel defused a remote-controlled bomb planted near an imambargah in the Qasba Colony area of Peerabad, reported here on Thursday. The bomb was planted in a block and was placed near Ali Imambargah. People who saw the suspicious block informed police who then identified it as a bomb and the BDS were called to the scene. According to BDS sources, the bomb contained 8kg of explosives and had a cellphone placed inside it which was going to be used to detonate it. Police claimed to have arrested 44 culprits in different raids from various parts of the City here on Monday. Crime Investigation Department of the Sindh Police claimed to have arrested two suspects including Ashiq aka Kashi and Amir aka Bandar during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Surjani locality. The powerful extortion mafia continued to haunt the city traders. In a fresh incident, a hand grenade was thrown into house of a local trader, which fortunately did not explode. Some unknown miscreants threw a hand grenade in a trader’s resident in Khayaba-e-Mujahid of Darakhshan area. However, the bomb disposal squad said, the grenade did not explode and the home residents escaped a terrorism bid. The trader claimed that he had been threatened by a criminal gang for money extortion. Meanwhile, a political worker was gunned down in Qasba Colony at Orangi Town, while a dead body was found from a garbage dump in Pan Mani, Old City Area.

A former army man was shot dead and two others, including a police constable of the special branch, were wounded in Frontier Colony within the remit of the Pirabad police station on Thursday morning, police said. The incident took place when the three men going on two motorcycles reached Rabbani Mohalla in Frontier Colony, Qasba Colony, where unidentified men ambushed them, the police added. Saiful Mulk, 40, died on the spot, while Ismail and Abdul Ghani were wounded, they said. After the incident the attackers managed to flee. Two people Injured in Qasba Colony

Two persons were injured when two rival groups clashed in Qasba Colony area of Karachi Friday. According to sources, two groups exchanged fire that injured two persons in Qasba Colony who were shifted to the hospital. Some miscreants burnt a car and motorbike while shops closed down following the clashes. Rangers and police surrounded the area to control the situation while eight persons were also arrested. The area gave deserted look after the incident.

Tension prevails in Orangi Town, Qasba Colony and other parts of the city after killing of four people. Unidentified gunmen started firing in the area, killing a young man Ibrahim (19). Police told media that the young man was sitting at his friend’s shop in Bukhari Colony when he was shot dead. The victim was a watchman and worker of a political party, police said. On the other hand, another young man Mustafa (16) was also killed in Nayaabad area. A disabled man was also killed in Aligarh Colony of Orangi Town. Zubair, who received bullet wounds in Qasba Colony, succumbed to the injuries at a hospital.
