Shortage of Gas hits Residential Localities

Residents of many areas in Karachi have been experiencing a severe shortage of gas for the past several days as gas pressure in stoves and geysers has reduced to the lowest if it has not altogether gone. SSGC’s special Task Force conducted a raid in Shah Abdul Lateef Town


The Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) special Task Force today conducted a major raid in Shah Abdul Lateef Town where some 500 households were directly using gas through a network of illegal rubber pipes. In a swift action, Task Force disconnected these pipes and confiscated them, despite strong resistance from the area residents. The TF sought the cooperation of Area Police and SSGC’s own Security Services Department in conducting the raid. During the raid, Amir Mumtaz Khan, General Manager, Customer Relations, SSGC made a strong plea to the area residents of Shah Abdul Lateef Town that instead of resorting to illegal means, domestic consumers must formally apply for connections with the Company.

KESC Says Loadshedding to Rise by 7.5 Hours


Decreased power generation by the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) owing to lesser gas supply from the SSGC has increased the amount of load shedding for the Karachiites for the past two days. People from different areas have complained about the loadshedding in their localities, which ranges from 6 to 7.5 hours a day, when the company was only resorting to shutdowns of maximum three hours a day till a couple of days back. The KESC authorities have expressed concern over the curtailed gas supply by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), saying it negatively impacted the company’s power generation capabilities. Gas Prices Challenged in SHC


The recently hiked prices of the gas have been challenged in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday. The petition has pleaded the court to make as respondents the federal government, Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the federal petroleum minister, MD Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The petitioner said the raise in gas prices is an additional burden on the people and it will unleash a new wave price hike; hence, the hike should be withdrawn.
